Welcome to Lutheran Church of Hope!
Our congregation was officially founded in 1957 in Anchorage, Alaska. People from Central Lutheran Church aided in the planning of the first service. The Central choir sang at that service, which was held at the Center Theater on October 21, 1956. Setting up the temporary altar and pulpit, rolling out the piano and moving the hymn books and Sunday school materials had to be done each Sunday. Early members recall cleaning up the popcorn and candy wrappers on the floor of the theater. The newspaper advertisement carried the caption, "softest seats of any church in town."
At the first annual congregational meeting in January 1958, our first pastor, the Reverend Glenn Groth, advised that "real things to come begin as dreams," and we have continued to dream, to worship God and spread the love of Christ throughout our community.
